Sweetwater/SEAMUS 2026 Student Competition Submission Form

Note that only members of SEAMUS who are full-time students are eligible to enter this competition. If your entry is a collaborative composition, you must have been the primary composer and the work must have been written mostly by students.

Please be aware that the Sweetwater/SEAMUS submission process is entirely separate from the SEAMUS Conference submission process. Submissions for the Sweetwater/SEAMUS prize are not automatically considered for conference inclusion, and vice-versa. Students wishing to enter the competition and submit to the conference must complete both submission processes. Students may submit the same piece for both entries, or two different pieces.

Individuals are allowed one Sweetwater/SEAMUS submission.

This is an anonymous competition. Make sure to remove your name from the content of the files, including MP3 metadata and PDF scores.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Sweetwater/SEAMUS Student Commissioning Competition must be student members of SEAMUS and must be either currently enrolled in an academic program in the United States (high school through doctoral studies) or a United States citizen studying abroad. All completed submissions will be verified for student status against current SEAMUS membership records.

For more information, see the Sweetwater/SEAMUS page at seamusonline.org. Judging of multichannel music submissions may be from stereo audio files depending on the availability of judges with access to the necessary equipment. Please provide a stereo mixdown for adjudication purposes.

Requirements

You must be a SEAMUS member in good standing to submit. If you are not a SEAMUS member, or you have not renewed your membership, please go to SEAMUSonline.org to join or renew.

You will also need a free Submittable account profile to access the submission form. This is a separate username and password from your SEAMUS account—they are not linked. Please use this to log in to the submission form.

Please direct any questions regarding your submission or the submission process to Becky Brown, Director of Technological Development at: techdev@seamusonline.org.

Below is a brief survey (should take less than a minute) with questions that reflect the desire of SEAMUS to gather information that can potentially assist the organization in ensuring that our events and services are available to a diverse membership. These questions are in no way connected to the entry that you have just submitted and these answers are anonymous. Taking this survey is completely voluntary but we appreciate your consideration and action to assist us in imagining future projects, programs, and opportunities.

SEAMUS 2026 Concert Works Submission Form

Before proceeding, please review the details of the call for submissions at: https://seamusonline.org/seamus-2026-call/

Concert works include fixed media compositions for up to 8 channels, audiovisual works for up to 8 channels of audio, and works for performers with live and/or fixed electronic elements. Pieces for the featured performers are also welcome here (see call above for performer bios).

Anonymous submission reminders

Adjudication of the SEAMUS National Conference is a double-blind review. This means that the judges do not know who you are, and are reviewing your work anonymously. Any distinguishing marks that negate the double-blind review will disqualify the submission, and cause it to be withdrawn from consideration.

Please note that iTunes and Compressor can automatically add your name to the ID3 tag when encoding audio to MP3. Make sure to remove all ID3 tags from your MP3. Please make sure that your name, or any other identifying marks, are not present in this metadata. Audio files that contain identifying information will be automatically withdrawn from consideration.

For videos of performances, seeing the composer performing does not constitute an anonymity violation, as there is no expectation that the performer shown is the composer of the work. Seeing the composer's name, however, does constitute such a violation.

Requirements

You are required to be a current and active SEAMUS member to submit. If you are not a SEAMUS member, or you have not renewed your membership, please go to SEAMUSonline.org to join or renew.
